(Get the real feedback and see photos of the photographers on our last trip to the Yukon in Sept 2016).

SKILL LEVEL:

It would be great if you know how to use your camera on manual mode using settings like ISO, aperture, shutter speed and the light meter in your camera.  But if not, not to worry, the whole point of the trip is to get to know your camera and improve your photography knowledge and skills.  If you want to chat about this give me a call or send me an email.

FITNESS LEVEL:

We will be driving to each vantage point, however, you should feel comfortable walking with your camera bag on your back and walking on uneven terrain for small stretches. Ensure that you have suitable footwear or hiking boots. We are not anticipating any strenuous hiking.

TRIP PLAN:

Day 1: After arriving in Whitehorse, we will drive to Haines Junction (2-hour drive). Once we have settled in at our accommodation, situated on the doorstep of the world renowned Kluane National Park, we will get together and do an equipment check and go over the itinerary for the next few days.

Day 2: We will head out before sunrise for Kluane National Park. Kluane is a UNESCO World Heritage site and has often been referred to as the Canadian Himalayas. It is home to grizzly bears, Dall's Sheep and woodland caribou to name a few. We will photograph sunrise at one of the lakes in the area.  We return to our accommodation for breakfast and then a one hour lecture and workshop by Barry J Brady. After lunch, we make our way to Silver City on the eastern shore of Kluane Lake and set up nearby for our evening shoot of Sheep Mountain, if the conditions are right, we will hopefully capture the Northern Lights.

Day 3: We start our day early again and head out for our sunrise shoot. We return to our accommodation for breakfast and then leave Kluane National Park for the town of Whitehorse. En-route to Whitehorse, we drive through the Ibex Valley. We will stop along the way to photograph the magnificent fall colours against the backdrop of the rugged mountain ranges. We will arrive in Whitehorse in the late afternoon, check into our hotel. Dinner will be hosted by a local artist in their home.  After dinner, we’ll photograph the Northern Lights if they are running.

Day 4: We begin our day in the mountains near Fish Lake. This magnificent lake is set amongst the mountains and has wonderful scenery. We will return to Whitehorse for breakfast and after breakfast we’ll head out on the South Klondike Highway in the direction of the Carcross Desert, stopping at selected photo locations along the way.  We will spend time in this unique landscape and after lunch, we continue south.  Our evening shoot will be near Bennett Lake and Nares Lake and keeping a lookout for the Northern Lights.

Day 5: We do one final early morning shoot and meet together for breakfast to share our experiences.  It’s then back to the hotel to pack and say our goodbyes.

Disclaimer: As most of our photo trips take place outdoors in nature, we are at the behest of the elements.  While we can’t guarantee you the ideal weather conditions or that you will see the Northern Lights, we will certainly make every effort to provide you with a memorable and worthwhile experience.  Regardless of the weather, you will be immersed in photography, learning to make beautiful images and using your camera gear in all situations.  And the bonus is you get to travel to new places, meet other photographers and improve your photography skills.
